RESNET PROPOSES AMENDMENT OF RESNET RATING FIELD INSPECTOR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A recommendation of the RESNET National Consistency of HERS Index Scores was for more robust practical testing for HERS Raters and Rating Field Inspectors (RFI).
Currently RFI’s must pass a written multiple choice test. This has created a great frustration in the rating industry because written tests are not the best way to measure a candidate’s practical skills.
Based upon the recommendations the RESNET Training and Education Committee, the RESNET Board of Directors adopted a policy for a tablet based mentor structured process for RFIs to demonstrate their practical knowledge on conducting rating field inspections. The RESNET Training and Education Committee established a working group to develop the tablet based tool. The result is the RESNET JOBwerks RFI tool. The tool has been tested, reviewed by the committee and is ready for deployment.
The proposed amendment does away with the written RFI test and replaces with it completion of the field probationary inspections documented by the RESNET JOBwerks RFI tool.
Chapter Two of the RESNET standards requires HERS Raters to pass the simulation and CAZ testing tests. Chapter One of the standard needs to be amended to be consistent with the amended Chapter Two.
Chapter One is also being proposed to be amended to require that RFI are included in the RESNET Rater Registry.
This proposed amendment is undergoing the RESNET non-ANSI standard amendment public review and comment process. Interested parties are encouraged to comment on the proposed amendment. Public comments on the proposed amendment will be accepted until Friday, October 31, 2014.
