I think it’s safe to say that we ALL look forward to spring! The dullness of winter begins to fade, a feeling of rebirth and renewal surrounds us and that wonderful, spring air makes you want to take a deep lungful of it...

Hold on. Great as that spring air is, for many Americans the joy of spring is tempered by the arrival of the allergy season. Ah yes, we need to factor in itchy eyes, runny noses and non-stop sneezing as well! Time for a little energy efficient spring-cleaning, I think. Now is the perfect time to prepare your home against allergies, along with general maintenance that’ll improve your home comfort while cutting energy costs. Our article on energy efficient spring-cleaning gives you some good pointers.

And speaking of energy costs, did you know that your home may be using energy - and lots of it - even when nobody’s home? It’s true! However, the good news is that you can put a stop to that by installing a programmable thermostat. This month’s article on programmable thermostats tells you more about how these clever little gadgets can save you big money.

That’s right, spring-cleaning.

It might not be the first thing that springs to mind - pardon the pun - when thinking of this time of year, but it is part and parcel of the season for many Americans.

In more than a few households, spring-cleaning follows a set pattern, starting with putting away the winter clothing and bedding to doing a thorough house cleaning. It also happens to be a great opportunity to make some energy efficient changes around your home.

Investing in a programmable thermostat could result in significant savings. If you can program your TV to record your favorite shows, why can’t you program your thermostat to set different temperatures at different times of day in your home?

Well, the good news is that you can, because that’s exactly what a programmable thermostat does. Also known as setback thermostats, these devices allow you to regulate the temperature of your home according to need, thereby reducing your overall energy consumption and maximizing your energy efficiency.
